On February 6th, 2003 , the streets buzzed with talk that a new album produced by Dr Dre and Eminem was coming to take the decade.
On this day, twelve years ago, was the debut album release of rap’s new gangsta rapper, 50 cent. Titled “Get Rich or Die Tryin”, this album painted a scene of the life of a top tier crack dealer who was untouchable and unstoppable. It even reminded folks of 50’s miracle of making it through 9 bullet wounds.
Get Rich or Die Tryin sold 872K copies its first week , landing it on Billboard’s 200 at number one. It has also received great ratings from acclaimed critics (one out of 19 albums to receive a perfect score from XXL), nominated for a grammy and is certified 6x platinum by RIAA.
No matter what people’s current thoughts on 50 cent are, he will always be down in history as having one of the best albums of the 2000s.
